Is the Needles district worth the drive?
The drive into Needles is very impressive even if you just to do the Chesler Park/Joint trail as a day hike. We were unlucky with very windy conditions, blowing grit/sand, but the scenery is more than worth the effort. By all means, take plenty of water and food/snacks that don’t make you thirsty.

Island in the Sky is the most accessible district, while The Maze is the most remote, and The Needles offers more of a backcountry experience. The park’s website has suggested itineraries in Island In the Sky and The Needles depending on the amount of time you have to spend, which are very helpful.

Island in the sky is a top down look. You can see it from the overlooks near the road. Needles is a bottom up view best seen using a 4 wheel vehicle or from some of the more lengthy hiking trails.
